The government has just announced that it will now begin to contact existing working age Disability Living Allowance (DLA) claimants on long term or indefinite awards (including ‘lifetime’ awards) to start the ‘transfer’ to Personal Independence Payments (PIP). This will mean that DLA will stop and PIP will only begin if you make a PIP Claim. This does not apply to Claimants who were 65 or over in April 2013. They will remain on DLA as long as they continue to meet its rules.
Warwickshire Welfare Rights Advice Service (WWRAS) has produced guidance: Pb95 DLA-2-PIP explaining the process
They are also able to advise anyone who is unhappy with a PIP decision, plus provide representation at the second, independent tribunal stage of appeal.
They are directly accessible to DLA/PIP claimants by:
· Visiting their website at www.wwras.org.uk to view/download a free guide leaflet Pb95 DLA-2-PIP;
· Phone the special PIP Appeal Line open on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 2pm-4pm on O845 241 0396 or 024 76 354034;
· Email them on email@example.com if you want their help to challenge a PIP decision;
· Or write to them at: WWRAS, 1 Stratford St, Nuneaton CV11 5BS.
