Nystagmus Network - Actor to be keynote speaker at NN Open Day

The actor Gerard McDermott will be sharing stories of life with the eye condition nystagmus at the Nystagmus Network Open Day in Newcastle on May 9th.  Nystagmus affects one in 1,000 people, so it’s not surprising Gerard was in his thirties before he met anybody else with it.  Thanks to Nystagmus Network things are different now. The annual Open day is the one place where people with nystagmus are in the majority.

Calibre Cassette Service to close

Message from Calibre below:

We are writing to inform you that Calibre Audio Library’s cassette service is to close at the end of June 2015.

We have maintained this service for as long as possible but we would like to take this opportunity to explain this decision. We found we were unable to replace or maintain the duplication equipment needed for a cassette service. Neither was it feasible to replace or recycle cassettes as each time this process occurs the audio quality deteriorates.

You might have heard about the smart specs or smart glasses being developed by Oxford University. Over the next year or so we will be trying out the glasses with a range of people to find out if the glasses can help and how they can be improved.
